Building Trends For New Home Buyers

Building your own home means there are plenty of decisions to make, big and small. You of course need to determine the functional details like floor plans and square footage, but it’s important you don’t overlook the design elements that will make your house a home. There have been many building trends surfacing in Sunshine Coast homes over the past year and we want to share with you our favourites . If you’re currently building or renovating your Sunshine Coast home, get your inspiration for the latest building trends here.

KITCHEN

Functionally fashionable kitchen islands have had quite the popularity surge. While having an island surface in your kitchen is nothing new, the current trend is to get the most out of it. Large islands are now being upgraded with luxurious sinks, functional dishwashers, and clad with display shelving to show off any prized crockery in an aesthetically pleasing way. It’s an ode to organisation and functional design, and we’re loving the trend. If you want some inspiration, chat to our friends at Trendset Kitchens for insight into what islands would work in your kitchen.

BATHROOM

Natural tones have taken over bathrooms this year. One trend we are particularly fond of is the use of slate or stone tiling. The richness of the colours and textures gives the space a grounded and calming energy. Check out Coolum Tile & Stone Studio for some stone and slate inspiration. Another trend that has taken off is freestanding baths. NCP Bathroom Centres are masters at featuring the bath, taking it off the wall and turning it into the focus of the room, adding beauty to functionality.

LIVING AREA

If you want to add some intrigue to your space, concrete accents has made a triumphant return in styling living rooms. Whether it’s something as dramatic as polished concrete floors or walls or just the occasional decor accent, you can combine the look with mixed brassy metals to create an industrial design that has been increasingly popular of late. Check out Boral Concrete for some cool grey inspiration.

BEDROOM

Crowded bedrooms have been replaced with minimalist sanctuaries, complete with floor to ceiling views. Those with lush private gardens have been taking advantage of them by waking up amongst nature every morning. Lifestyle Windows are our go-to when it comes to glasswork, they will create the illusion of endless space and bring in floods of natural light to make your bedroom a relaxing oasis.

OUTDOOR

Speaking of taking advantage of natural beauty, the biggest outdoor trend we have seen lately has been seamless indoor outdoor spaces. Lifestyle Windows comes up with clever designs to bring the wide open spaces indoors. Combine that with some gorgeous natural wood decking from Gowan Lea Timbers for an indoor to outdoor flow that will keep you in touch with nature even as you relax inside on the couch.
